I did check into bereavement fares. The fare doesn't apply to cousins, and they require documentation, so you can't lie. The discount was pretty minimal anyway. But it's really too light to be able to catch a flight that would get me there in time. My sister and her hubs are going to the funeral directly from their train back to Chicago, so I wouldn't have a place to stay tonight on such short notice. I wish her kids had delayed the funeral.

wings, so glad to know you did the same thing about memories, and it brought laughter--exactly what's needed.

I had a feeling that it might not cover cousins, but it never hurts to ask. I'm sorry that you could not go.

The sensor sees the word tu-rd in Satu-rday. The sensor has made for creative writing at times.

Taffy- sorry for your loss and all of your vision issues. I love The list of memories, it is a way of keeping their spirit alive especially to those that might have been too young to know them. Healing and comforting thoughts from California.

I so appreciate all the support. Bad news again today: despite prednisolone drops every two hours, the rejection of the corneal graft in the left eye has progressed again. I had increased pain and light sensitivity on Sunday but bumped up drops on my own to every hour, as that's what the doc would have had me do. I thought I was holding the line on the rejection. Nope.  So he put me on the strongest steroid drop out there. If those don't work, I get steroid shots in the eye (Sorry, but really, not as bad as it sounds.)

He said the crummy vision in that eye likely won't improve because the retina is too damaged from the Plaquenil.

He's sending me to a different contact lens specialist, but I'm really about out of options there, so I will probably head back to Salt Lake to see about transplant surgery on the right eye (#2 on that one). Problem then is I won't see much out of either eye until the right one heals.

Lupus hates my eyes.

Thank you, everyone. You're always so understanding and kind. I went back to the eye doc today. Using such strong drops so often has  my eye. He called it "surface toxicity," which sounds worse than it is. If you've ever put a scra-ped knee in salt water, you know what I mean. (The censor won't let me write that word without a hyphen--second 4 letters) He said it "doesn't look much worse than yesterday," when I hoped he'd say it looked better, but I can be patient.

OK, is it any better NOW? :)
