You know what I am afraid of ? Is waking up during surgery. When my boss was 10 she had to have an emergency appendicitis when she came out of the surgery she asked them why they were talking about chocolate covered ants and bugs. The nurse said you heard that's? And she said yes. After talking to one of our doctors they told her she was not in a deep enough sleep like she should have been.

Ever since then I am scared of stuff like that

I woke up during one of my surgeries and recall pointing my toes really hard bc it hurt so much,  then there was a lot of talking and people moving around before I drifted back outta' consciousness  --that was scary!

we get some rather obedient patients here, and they just do what they’re told

not a wise approach

we need to take as much, if not more, responsibility for our own health care as anyone we consult

When I was pregnant with savannah they had to put a Groshong catheter in my chest and they could not knock me out to do it. The nurse said since the patients awake maybe she can pick the music. Just when I was going to say anything country my doctor said ok just not country. I kept my mouth shut

Our channel 2 just had a story about this kinda scary. You should be able to go into a hospital and feel safe

Note: Please excuse any misspelled works or grammar errors. I have CNS lupus and brain lesions and use a program to help me type

So bittersweet to see Anthony's posts on this. I had a local anesthetic and IV sedation during an eye surgery involving incisions. In some eye surgeries you have to stay awake so you can follow directions, but you cannot move a muscle otherwise--no talking, laughing, etc. Surgeon ran into complications and the local wore off 30 minutes before he finished cutting and stitching. Sheer h e l l. Maybe the CIA could use the technique for terrorists.

Worst medical error was when docs diagnosed me with an ileus when I had severe stomach pain. Told me to drink a bottle of magnesium citrate, a laxative. Turned out I had appendicitis. Laxatives can cause a ruptured appendix during appendicitis.
