Adults with arthritis had significantly higher odds of suicide attempts than adults without these conditions, according to Canadian researchers.

Many of us who have lupus also develop arthritis or othro arthritis due to the fact that we have to take a lot of prednisone

quoted from the article Robin posted above:

"Poor mental health and chronic pain may help explain the link between arthritis and suicide attempts. Previous research has linked arthritis to mental health problems, including mood and anxiety disorders and abuse disorders. In turn, the risk of suicide attempt is much greater among individuals with major depression and anxiety disorders and particularly high among those with both disorders.

Arthritis sometimes results in chronic pain, which in some individuals is not well managed. A number of studies have found that the risk of suicide attempt is higher for those experiencing chronic pain."

These are similar issues with Lupus sufferers.

Suicide IS a touchy subject.  It's heart wrenching.  And needs to be addressed and talked about........so that people considering it......will NOT be ashamed to ask for help!!

Hey Bun
You are very welcome. Not sure what elicited that  somewhat snarky remark from the mod.  I found it to be a legit post in the correct category.

And many people who have one also have the other, like mua'. It's often referred to as Rupus. I only learned this a couple years ago.

What do you mean Lupus is not arthritis? Lupus is the great imitator is it not? My most debilitating lupus symptom is my joints and it is severe. I mimic RA with the exception that I won't stay permanently deformed, my joints deform but then move back when I deflate. I'm confused...
